In
1948 Costa Rica was the first country in the modern world
to abolish its army. This is a true democracy with more teachers
than police, with one of the highest literacy rates in the
entire world, and former presidents recognized for world peace
efforts. President Oscar Arias, Nobel Peace Prize 1987, President
Rodrigo Carazo 1980 instrumental in establishing the United
Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica.World Heritage
recognizes three of Costa Rica's National Parks, for exhibiting
outstanding universal value.

Figueres, who defended his agricultural nation's pursuit of

to the visionary coffee barons of the 19th century, The National
Theater was commissioned. This magnificent structure plays
host to famed international stars as well as being the home
of The National Symphony and highly acclaimed dance companies,
Compania Nacional de Danza and Taller Nacional de Danza. The
Youth Symphony and Castella University have produced Grammy
Award group such as EDITUS. The National Choir performs worldwide
and the numerous galleries display exhibits of fine artists
and photographers.A nation of struggling farmers of the "Third
World" to "Developing Nation", Costa Ricans
can be extremely proud of their heritage.
